Various definitions have been used over time to describe or define the process of financial modelling. At a high level, the process of financial modelling could be described as the the assembly of all relevant components of a business case, in a logical and structured manner, into a predictive tool for the evaluation of financial performance. A more detailed description would be “a financial model is a complex set of interconnected dynamic spreadsheets where time related outputs, generally in the form of time related financial statements and analysis, are based on predetermined variable inputs.”
Simply put a financial model is a predictive tool used to understand or analyse complex business situations – to cut through complexity – and assist management, investors and financiers in making informed decisions. Properly researched and properly built, flexible, appropriate financial models are indispensable tools to assist management to make informed decisions.
With 25 years experience teaching in-house and public financial modelling courses around the world, our courses have not only been continually refined and advanced over time, they’re tried and tested.
